About Louis van der Riet

At the helm of winemaking is Louis van der Riet, who joined Jakkalsvlei in 2019. His journey into winemaking began with an interest in marine biology, but after hands-on experience at a co -operative cellar, Louis was captivated by the art of winemaking. His formal training at Elsenburg, along with an internship in Napa Valley, shaped a career marked by innovation and excellence.

Before joining Jakkalsvlei, Louis worked across prestigious cellars in South Africa, where he earned numerous local wine awards. His work has also received international recognition from Tim Atkin and the Michelangelo Awards.

Known for his precision and creativity, Louis continuously seeks to elevate the winemaking craft.

A Toast to 100 Years of Pinotage

Born in 1925 from the union of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut, Pinotage is South Africa’s very own wine icon. This masterclass is a tribute to its proud legacy, the pioneers who shaped it, and the exciting future being crafted by today’s innovative winemakers.

Johan Badenhorst is ‘n ontdekkingsreisiger, storieverteller en uitsaaier wat die TV-reeks Voetspore in 2000 begin het. Hy het sy span op talle avonture regoor Afrika geneem – van Casablanca tot die Kaap, Agulhas tot Alexandrië, en selfs met die ewenaar langs die kontinent gekruis en die Zambezirivier gevolg van sy oorsprong tot by die see. Hulle het ook deur Madagaskar getrek en met motorfietse deur die Himalajas gery. Meer onlangs was daar drie ekspidisies deur Suid Amerika. Johan het meer as 400 000 km met sy reise agter die blad (dis meer as agt keer om die planeet). Hy droom nie net groot nie, hy maak eintlik daardie drome ‘n werklikheid en bring mense saam vir die reis. Johan het reeds 18 Voetspore-ekspedisies voltooi.

Nina se liefde vir mense en kook is duidelik terwyl sy beheer neem oor die logistiek en etes tydens die reise, en dit altyd met ‘n glimlag. Saam met haar pa Johan speel Nina ‘n belangrike rol in die organisering van toere, aanbieding en kook vir Voetspore-ekspedisies asook Voetspore Safaris (dis wanneer hulle kliënte op kort reise in Afrika neem). As die enigste vroulike lid van die span is Nina ‘n baanbreker wat toekomstige vroulike reisigers inspireer. Nina het reeds 5 keer die Voetspore avontuur beleef – deur Suid Afrika, die Zambezi-reis asook die drie Suid Amerikaanse reise.
