This 34ha vineyard is situated 40km from the Indian Ocean at the foot of the Langeberg mountains. The combination of the southern and northern slopes of these mountains allow for the cultivation of quality grapes on the Jakkalsvlei wine farm.

The southern slope gets the benefit of early morning sun, warm days and cool nights. Our vineyards’ temperate climate and restrictive soil are key ingredients in growing high quality grapes. Jakkalsvlei has been acclaimed for yielding grapes that produce mountain-grown wines of rare depth, longevity and elegance.

Jakkalsvlei - Thomas

Thomas Potgieter was Catering Manager for the SA Reserve Bank for 26 years. He was responsible for all the catering requirements in the Executive dining rooms, the Bank’s conference centre and the staff cafeteria.

Thomas attained a National Diploma in Hotel Management at The Hotel School in Johannesburg. He was privileged to be awarded a bursary to complete his last six months in-service training at The Grand Hotel Krasnapoksky in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He returned to South Africa and managed restaurants in Pretoria before moving to the Reserve Bank.

He also completed BTech Food Service Management. Thomas retired as an employee of the SA Reserve Bank and now lives his food passion at Jakkalsvlei.

He is extremely passionate about food and his blackboard specials on weekends are always a winner. His skill to combine food with Jakkalsvlei wines are phenomenal.

Jakkalsvlei offers a versatile range of classic variety’s that suits all tastes.

The Jakkalsvlei range include eight different wines from fresh and zesty Sauvignon Blanc, a fruity River Cuvee white blend, soft and elegant Red Mount Cuvee blend, coffee driven Pinotage, and a full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. The range also features two sweet wines. A rich and creamy Hanepoot and juicy syrupy Red Muscadel.  The wines are full of character and reflects the true ambiance of the Jakkalsvlei Farm.
