Jakkalsvlei is situated 40km inland from the Indian Ocean next to the Langeberg Mountains. Our climate is warm and dry during the summer with the ocean cooling it down at night. Our annual rainfall is 400mm, slightly higher than the average for this area since the farm is situated next to the mountains, which makes it easier for the southeast rain clouds to gather up next to the mountain range. The vines are planted in different soil types, clay, shale and sandstone. The northern and southern slopes on the farm give us more options to plant different cultivars.

At Jakkalsvlei we have 13 different cultivars, mostly used for bottling. Our Jakkalsvlei range is focused on high-quality fruit-driven wines and also produces an exclusive premium range called Lord Jackal in limited quantities.

Jakkalsvlei continues to be one of the Garden Route’s most popular destinations. For first-time visitors, it’s usually love at first sight after experiencing the breathtaking vineyard and mountain views that the farm offers. We hope that you and your family feel the same.

OUR WINES

Jakkalsvlei offers a versatile range of classic varieties that suits all tastes.

The Jakkalsvlei range includes thirteen different wines from a fresh and zesty Sauvignon Blanc, a fruity River Cuvée white blend, a tropical Chenin Blanc, a dry Pinotage Rosé, a natural-sweet range of White, Red & Pink Moscato, a soft and elegant full bodied Mount Cuvée blend, a coffee driven Pinotage, a complex Merlot and a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. The range also features two sweet wines. A rich and creamy Hanepoot and juicy syrupy Red Muscadel. The wines are full of character and reflect the true ambience of the Jakkalsvlei Farm.

OUR VINEYARDS

Fertile soil and a warm/dry climate makes Jakkalsvlei a choice environment for farming fruit and vineyards. The farm produces roughly 500 000 litres annually from 61 Ha of operating vineyards. 24 Ha of vines from the farm are used in the production of our Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and Pinotage being the most notable.

Our vision at Jakkalsvlei is to produce fine wines from the Garden Route that reflect the complexity, richness and diversity of our unique terroir.

Hennie joined the team at Jakkalsvlei in 2022 and his 20 years’ experience in the agriculture sector has truly been an asset to the farm. His passion for farming and love of the vineyards has been an inspiration. He attended Hoër Landbouskool so it was a natural progression for him to go on to study agriculture at Elsenburg.
